4 Years of Marriage + Our Story

Last week, Jake and I celebrated our 4-year anniversary—and I’ve found myself feeling very nostalgic. We’ve truly grown up together. Through so many highs and lows, laughter, travel, and big life transitions, we’ve built something really special. So today, I thought I’d share a little recap of our story so far:

Jake and I first met in the spring of 2017. I was a sophomore at UGA, and he had just enrolled early before his freshman year. He moved into the dorm I was already living in, and—funny enough—his roommate had just started dating one of my best friends and roommates. Naturally, we all started hanging out and formed our own little friend group. That spring, we even took a trip together for spring break. I’ll never forget when our friends jokingly changed my contact in Jake’s phone to “Caroline Fromm”—and it’s stayed that way ever since.

At the time, Jake was just beginning his football journey, and I was playing volleyball, so our fall semesters were packed. Over the next year, we became close friends, and we officially started dating in the fall of 2018. From the beginning, I knew there was something different about Jake. He had (and still has) the most bright, joyful spirit. He’s so confident in who he is and so rooted in the Lord—it made me feel safe, seen, and completely at ease.

Because our seasons overlapped, I didn’t get to go to many of Jake’s games until the 2019–2020 season, when I had finished undergrad and volleyball and was taking a grad year. That year was such a sweet one—my roommates and I finally got to enjoy life as “normal students,” going to games and tailgates, even traveling for a few away games.

At the start of 2020, Jake declared for the NFL Draft and moved to Alabama to train. It was our first time doing long distance. He was drafted to the Buffalo Bills that spring, during the COVID season. Though we spent that year apart, I traveled to visit whenever I could. We got engaged in March of 2021 and were married just a few months later, at the beginning of July. Some people questioned the short engagement, but for us, it was simple—we just wanted to be together before the next season started.

We moved to Buffalo, NY for the first few months of marriage. Right after Thanksgiving, Jake was picked up by the New York Giants, so we spent our first married Christmas in the Big Apple. Over the next two seasons, he played for the Washington Commanders. In July 2023, right before he left for training camp, we found out we were expecting our first baby. We came home for the offseason and welcomed our sweet little one before Jake signed with the Detroit Lions in the fall of 2024. And now, we’re getting ready to welcome baby #2 in the fall.

The Lord has been so faithful to us—through every season. I’m endlessly grateful for Jake. He’s still the same joyful, steady, and kind-hearted man I fell in love with. He loves the Lord deeply and lives with strength and purpose. He’s my best friend and the love of my life. If I could have him by my side every minute of every day, I would.

Thank you, Lord, for my husband. Thank you for 4 amazing years of marriage. Thank you for our babies. Thank you for our family and friends. Thank you for this beautiful, full life—it’s not perfect, but it’s everything I ever dreamed of.
